Houshunting continued

Posted by Tjeerd on May 23, 2009

The house we had an eye on (nearby a trainstation) is finally sold officially, in the meanwhile we have found a “new” house which we visited last week. It is located in a quiet neigbourhood with many big trees and gardens full of plants, so it looks like they like nature. The house itself looks quite good too, although the kitchen is very old-fashioned. There is some work to do in the house. For me there is currently only one minor point and that’s the fact that the house has wooden floors on the first and second level. Because I want to play electronic drums we have to look into that, hopefully we can solve that problem. Upcoming Monday we will have our second visit together with the father of Nina to get a better idea of the state of the house. Click on the pictures below to take a better look at it.

Windows Vista filesize bug

Posted by Tjeerd on May 16, 2009

filesizebugvistaThis morning I discovered a bug in Windows Vista – an OS which I rarely use, only if something really requires 100% Windows. I was exporting photos from Adobe Lightroom and while I was watching the files being written into a folder I also wanted to know the filesize of the exported files. If you are standing on an existing file and then click on a file being written it will report a negative filesize for the new file. That’s a minor bug, but if you then click on any other existing file in that folder, it reports for every file a negative size.

Numbers and angles

Posted by Tjeerd on April 16, 2009

Numbers and AnglesYou probably think that numbers and angles don’t have anything in common, but have you ever been thinking about the idea behind why numbers looks like … numbers? Today I heard from an Indian colleague that every number actually represent(ed) the amount of angles (or corners) it contains. I looked on the internet and there is indeed a theory behind numbers and angles, but it’s not easy to recognize it back in all numbers nowadays.

How does it feel like to have dementia?

Posted by Tjeerd on March 30, 2009

Dementiatest cartoonDementiatest photoWith a little test you can experience symptoms of dementia. All you need is a mirror, a pencil and a some pieces of paper. First draw a six-pointed star and inside that star draw an other extra six-pointed star, in such a way that you have a narrow band of about 1 cm between the inner and outer star. Now setup a mirror in front of the paper where you drew the star on. Finally grab another piece of paper to cover the drawing on your side, so that you can only see the mirror image of your star. Now start drawing a line between the inner and outer star and try to stay within the lines of the star. Keep drawing a line until you have followed the complete shape of the star and you end up at the beginning. Remember, you are only allowed to look via the mirror.

Once completed, this test gives you the feeling of someone who has dementia and has problems with his orientation.
